  12. Blender is a free and fully functional 3D modeling/rendering/animation 
  13. package for Unix/Windows/BeOS systems. Blender is distributed without sources, 
  14. it is exclusively developed and maintained by the Dutch company NaN.
  15.  
  16. This software is free to be applied for any purpose, excluding commercial
  17. distribution. For more about this, read the copyright notice included 
  18. in the download file.

  20. Starting with release 1.7 Blender will unlock certain (new) features and
  21. new development for paying users only. This is the C-Key system. For
  22. only 95 Euro you get texture plugins, postproduction plugins, motion blur,
  23. and much more.

  51. - Installation for x86 Windows 95/98/NT systems.
  52.  
  53.   Blender is distributed as a single zipped file named
  54.   blender1.7x_Windows.exe where the x is replaced by
  55.   the version number.
  56.  
  57.   To install Blender you only need to double-click its icon.
  58.  
  59.   The self expander will create a directory of your choice
  60.   which contains the executable and a few text files. To
  61.   run Blender open Windows Explorer to the directory it
  62.   was expanded into and double click the Blender icon.

  65. - Start Blender

  67.   To start Blender, double click the blender.exe icon.
  68.   When executed the first time, Blender searches for the Windows
  69.   directory, and copies 3 small user files in it:
  70.   - .B.blend  : user definable startup file
  71.   - .Bfs      : textfile, default directories
  72.   - .Bfont    : the default vector font

  77.   If you get the error:
  78.       "cannot find glu32.dll" or
  79.       "cannot find opengl32.dll" or
  80.   you need to get ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/opengl95.exe

  84. - 3 Button Mice
  85.  
  86.   If you have a 3 button mouse, but are unable to use it with Blender
  87.   try going to the Control Panel, and double-clicking the Mouse icon.
  88.   Look for a setting to "Unmap the middle mouse button" or to "Use
  89.   the middle mouse button as the middle mouse button".

  92. - 2 Button Mice
  93.  
  94.   All aspects of Blender's interface have been designed for use with
  95.   a 3 button mouse. If you only have a 2 button mouse we strongly
  96.   recommend you purchase a 3 button mouse, however, if you are
  97.   unable to do so you can use Alt-left mouse to emulate 
  98.   a middle mouse button.

  100.   If that fails, try loading an alternate driver, for example a
  101.   compatible Logitech driver. Typically the Logitech drivers come
  102.   with middle mouse support enabled.

  105. - Important tips
  106.  
  107.   - Blender is still being tested for Windows. We try to bring out
  108.     new versions each 2-3 weeks.
  109.  
  110.   - 3D cards don't work all proper with OpenGL. The most common problem
  111.     is the Zbuffer depth (16 instead of 24/32 bits). To solve for 
  112.     annoying artifacts, set the "ClipSta" value of the Camera at 1.0.
  113.     (in F9 menu with an active Camera Object).
  114.  
  115.   - If you have errors starting Blender, or Blender displays incorrectly
  116.     try downloading ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/opengl95.exe
  117.     and unpacking it and copying the opengl32.dll and glu32.dll files
  118.     into the Blender directory.
